Hug Your Cat Day
June 1, 2018

Did you know that there’s a special kitty holiday coming up? June 4th is Hug Your Cat Day! This is one holiday we are happy to celebrate! Kitties are wonderful friends and companions, who definitely deserve to be hugged every day. A Fort Bragg, NC vet discusses some of the do’s and don’ts of hugging cats in this article.

The Magic Of Kitty Hugs

Did you know that Fluffy’s little motor has some very special properties? The frequencies that cats purr at have been shown to help promote tissue growth and improve bone density. These frequencies–which are between 25-140 Hertz–are actually often used in therapy! Plus, as anyone who has ever hugged a cat can tell you, there is something very soothing and relaxing about kitty cuddles.

How To Hug A Cat

Pick your kitty up gently. Be sure to hold her so that her legs or paws are supporting her weight. Fluffy may put her front paws on your shoulder, or lean against your chest. If your feline buddy is feeling cuddly, she’ll start her little engine. When your cat decides hug time is over, just put her down gently.

Cute Ways Cats Demand Hugs

Our feline pals have a reputation for being aloof, but they are actually very lovable little furballs. Many kitties love to cuddle, and aren’t shy about asking for attention right meow. When Fluffy wants to snuggle, she may wind herself around your legs, flop over for a belly rub, follow you around, or just hop into your lap for a snooze. Of course, some of our more talkative feline pals may just meow for attention and snuggles. It’s almost impossible to refuse these adorable requests for cuddles!

Cats That Don’t Like Hugs

Kitties all have their own unique quirks and purrsonalities. Some cats want nothing more than to be petted and pampered, while others are more aloof, and would rather their humans admire them from a distance. Don’t force attention on a furball that doesn’t like to be held or petted. If you have a more reserved kitty, spoil your pet with toys and treats instead. Fluffy may also enjoy ear scritches or cheek rubs.
