Respect Your Cat Day
March 15, 2023

Respect Your Cat Day is March 28th! This is something we take very seriously. After all, anyone in the veterinary industry has learned a healthy respect for Fluffy’s little claws. However, showing your furry pal true respect entails much more than donning full body armor before giving her a pill. A Fort Bragg, NC vet discusses some of the ins and outs of kitty respect in this article.

Kitties Demanding Respect

Kitties may be small, but they are quite fierce. Our feline pals also managed to convince several ancient societies—most notably, Egypt—to treat them with the reverence one would show a deity. Fluffy is also a very formidable hunter. In fact, her skills at eradicating vermin are what led us to befriend her in the first place. (It’s also entirely possible that some ancient furball just walked into a primitive hut, dropped a dead mouse at the door, and then sprawled out by the fire. With cats, you never know.)

Understanding Fluffy

When it comes to respecting cats, a lot of it really comes down to understanding them. Doing a little research may shed a whole lot of light on those odd kitty quirks. For instance, many people get frustrated when their kitties scratch their sofas. Your feline buddy isn’t doing anything wrong, and she isn’t trying to destroy your things. She just has an innate, instinctive need to keep her nails sharp. Another element of respecting your furry bff? Don’t force attention on her. Being held or petted against her will is a huge pet peeve of Fluffy’s. Ask your vet for care tips.

Showing Fluffy Respect

If it were up to Fluffy, we’d all be installing catnip gardens, stocked moats, and catwalks in our homes. Fortunately for us, our feline overlords aren’t quite that demanding. Providing your furball with  good food, fresh water, proper veterinary care, and a clean litterbox is a great start. Aside from that, just make sure your cat is happy and comfortable. Offer kitty luxuries, like toys, catnip, scratching posts, and plush beds. It’s also important to just pay attention to your furry pal. Spend time with Fluffy every day. You’ll also need to keep an eye out for any signs of sickness. Contact your vet immediately if you notice anything wrong.
